No, the private contractors are much more expensive than regular soldiers. Stay out of wars for profit. That will save a bundle or, in the case of Iraq, maybe $2T.

That is how you save real money.

Iraq proves that all the yammering about the efficiency of the 'free market' is simply a myth. No, perpetual war is the goal of the Republican party. It is incredibly profitable and masks (or has until recently) truly bad behavior under the guise of false patriotism.

The draft can be started up in 6 months. We've been in this fiasco for over 5 years. Bush had plenty of time to get a draft going but that would have the effect of getting the American public to decline participation in the war at all.
