How the Vietnam War Ended?
Unfortunately, the answer seems to be the underlying cause of most of the conflicts in the late 20th century: Oil. The oil embargo started in 1973 by Saudi Arabia and the other gulf oil nations, which was in response to the Western (particularly US) support of Israel in the 1973 Israeli War, crippled America's military in the far east. Although by 1974 S.A. had agreed (without much publicity) to relax the embargo for the US military, the price was now much more than the US could pay, or had planned on paying. The price of oil skyrocketed. While the Arab League was no big fan of "Godless Communism", it wasn't in the mood to give the US any price breaks. The United States found its economy tumbling into a depression, and the cost of the war increased tenfold. There were even suggestions at the time that the US could invade S.A. (which were getting miltary supplies from the USSR during the 1973 conflict with Israel), but the Pentagon realized they wouldn't get too far without oil. The North Vietnamese, who had no reliance on the Gulf oil, pressed the offensive, and the US never regained its footing.
