TSL, Interesting thoughts on the (hedge) funds shorting. For a retail investor, if I am not mistaken, isn't there a c$3 minimum for margin investing in Canadian stocks, which would also include shorting? I wonder if the hedge funds are covered by the same limitations? Probably not, but I don't know. About the XAU and 200dma...I am looking at HUI right now, and believe it or not, HUI has not been this far below its 50DMA since June 2006, which was, if I recall correctly, a very difficult time for all assets.
