Dale, if I could wave my wand, it would be a Clinton/Obama ticker. Together they would launch a campaign based on overturning and/or tweaking the 25 year Reagan Revolution....keeping the good and throwing out the bad.
They would make clear that the goal is 16 years of Democratic leadership because this is what it will take to turn the big oil tanker of the USA in a different direction. They would ask for congressional majorities because this is needed to get things going quickly.
At the same time they would 'promise' incremental changes....no sweeping, grand policies or overthrows. For ex., small tax increases on the rich and smaller cuts for the middle class until the change to govt. revenues reveals itself
Two-thirds of the country, maybe more, is wide open to change and dissatisfied for one reason or another with the last 8 years. They just need confidence to turn the reins over to the Democratic party.
Hillary with her 5,10, or is it 500 point plans, lol, is perfect in the prime leadership role. The idea being not that she is somehow 'better' than Obama, but that this is a partnership and part of a long range plan. She gets things rolling and passes off to Obama at a future date, while he gains experience and learns the nitty-gritty of true coalition building in Washington.
Partnership and unity on the ticket calling for partnership and unity in the electorate is the way the whole fall campaign would be framed....further framed as a LT march to change that lifts all segments of the country.
Every segment of the Democratic party, could be made to see the wisdom of this, and how much a LT approach to things is needed. Handled properly, I think voters, not just dem, but independents could get on board and ready for the long haul, prepared to not be swayed by the 527s in the fall.
It would be a good civics lesson for this new generation of excited young voters who expect wonderful things to happen overnight. I've often thought of what a danger a failed or less than wonderful Obama presidency could do to this generation. |
