USA has as efficient agriculture, as you could want. Many other countries, however, have low productivity because:

- They don't want to reduce countryside population density too fast (e.g. France)

- They use farmers to protect nature (Switzerland)

- They don't have market economy or didn't have until recently (east europe)

- Their country subsidizes food, which lowers prices so that the farmers cannot afford to invest in the equipment necessary to raise productivity

There are many other reasons. China could probably more than double their production if they invested enough money.
