It is impossible to simply "leave out the history and all the old wounds." They still exist.

What I meant was an analysis for just which and how much racism is still practiced today, not how much old pains haunt people. Is there redlining, for example? How often does it happen? How many people does it affect? What exactly are the practical effects? Same for racial profiling and whatever else is still going on. For things on the list, to what extent are they racism and to what extent something that applies disproportionately to blacks so are perceived as racism? I'd like to see a list so that we know what we're dealing with.

Mixing what used to go on with what's still going on may be helpful for some purposes but it doesn't contribute much to problem solving.
