The Ponzi scheme you refer to has been generating huge budget surpluses since 1986. Those surpluses have been used to finance national defense and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Those surpluses have also been used to finance the Bush tax cuts. Without those SS surpluses, the tax cuts would have been impossible.
