Absolutely, we should pursue all avenues. The question becomes one of priorities.

If there's a choice between building a coal plant and building a solar thermal plant, I'd say go for the latter. If there's a choice between a nuke plant and wind, go for the latter. Set a sustainable future as the goal, and set priorities based on that.

And more importantly, I would say that we need to stop thinking of electricity as something that can only be generated in large, centralized power plants. There are practical distributed solutions available right now. There's just very little political impetus behind them because utility companies don't make money from rooftop wind turbines and solar collectors.
