Karen, my Dad made me a little stool to sit on in front of the radio. I would sit down at five o'clock and sit there until six o'clock when supper was ready with my ear placed as close to the speaker as I could get. We did not call it dinner then, it was always referred to as supper and a meal that all family members were in attendance of and shared their experiences that day with all. One thing any of our family should not do was miss supper time. My Mom and Dad were adamant about that and we all knew the consequences of doing so and never wanted to experience them. That was simply a rule of our home they insisted we abide by and the only exception was being ill and in bed, then Mom would bring dinner to the bed and sit by you until you finished so you wouldn't have to eat alone and she would repeat what the others said at the table so one never felt left out of the family circle. My parents considered meal time an important time to be together as a family and my memories of meals at home were all pleasant ones.
