Back in 1995 the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) had a family day. I flew out to Alameda, CA and stayed a few days with my son, who was assigned to the Vinson. We spent a full, mostly rainy day aboard and at sea. We traveled some 250 miles up and down the coast of CA looking for clear weather to watch a spectacular air show. They did the best they could under the weather circumstances and we saw a great show. My son had sufficient security clearances to take me from stem to stern on that great ship, including the area called "Combat" which is where all the activity is controlled during operations. Fascinating and very Buck Rogers like. Flash Gordon?? I guess Buck Rogers really isn't too 21st century. LOL... at any rate, a wonderful day.
