We'll see how much Americans like the "conservative" drift of the government and the Supreme Court as we drift into a form of government that is beyond the limits of the Constitution and our most basic protections. I hope the Libertarians put up a strong candidate this fall, because it will teach the Republicans a lesson that many on the right will not follow them down the slippery slope to tyranny. When a government can take you and hold you without charges indefinitely, it is no longer bound by consititutional controls, and has morphed into a self regulated police state. The Libertarians now understand what the liberals have worried about during these years of vanishing rights under Bush. If McCain loses this fall, the hidden story could very well be Libertarians defecting to someone who upholds liberty, like a Libertarian Presidential canidate. People underestimate how large the Libertarian block is in Republican party. Perhaps 20%, and they aren't stupid joe six packs who fall the Republican jingoism, they are hard core believers in the Constitution who might tell the nationalist Republicans to go take a hike.
