We, as American citizens, have the right to due process under the U.S. Constitution, which includes a right to a speedy trial by a jury of our peers. When you can be taken away, even as an American citizen, to a place like Guantamino and held without trial and due process, which is how George W. Bush interprets some of the powers granted him under the anti-terrorims legislation, you no longer have the same rights you had prior to this change in the interpretation of the Constitution. If you want more Supreme Court Justices who will uphold the right of federal authoritarianism and trampling of our core rights, go for it. I don't know what it is you're aiming for, but it sure isn't the country I grew up in or where I want to see this country going, and neither do millions of liberty loving Americans from the left and the right.

You and the rest of the ivory tower Republicans are in for rude awakening this fall. The writing is on the wall from recent elections. Libertarians in the Republican fold have had enough of the blatant authoritarianism and erosion of basic rights under Bush. One of the reasons the Democrats have been successful in the Western U.S. this decade is Libertarians abandoning the GOP's lurch toward intrusive government. This wild fire of libertarism is sweeping eastward. Ignore this trend if you like, but McCain might just lose because the Libertarians and like minded conservatives have had it with the Republican power grab under Bush. It's time to return to the America of yesteryear when we had core rights intact. Sounds kind of conservative. Let's conserve the rights we had in the 20th Century and lost under George W. Bush.
