Now I am even more confused. The blow sentence says to me that
they lost 0.66 in 3Q 1996 and earned 0.18 in 3Q 1995?!

"Oct. 14, 1997, Avant! Corp. announced a Sept. 1996 three-month loss per share of $0.66 vs earnings of $0.18 for same period a year ago.
Nine-month loss of $0.11 vs earnings of $0.57 for same period a year ago. "

So why does it say, revenue up?

"Avant! Corp. Posts $0.66 3Q Loss vs. $0.18 EPS; Revenues Up 38%"

But then this doesn't make sense. If they loss 0.66 cents
this last quarter, the stock would have taken a nose dive
by now. However the stocks reflects a small loss with the
rest of the tech sector.

BTW, CDN growing doesn't mean that AVNT is down. According
to the numbers that I looked at, placement and route only
accounted for 25% of the revenue last quarter. While AVNT
has obtained technology in areas that CDN don't have in
the circuit simulation and semiconductor simulation market.

This is a not a dualistic market where if one goes up, the
other one must come down. A lion share of CDN's revenue
comes from their services and consulting contracts
("spectrum services"). They have become less dependent on
their product sales. While AVNT still makes a majority of their
revenue from pure product sale.

I am just being sarcastic about Tonto. I just think it is
really funny how people can be so zealous about a stock based
on personal opinion. My opinion is that you can own both
CDN and AVNT stocks and make money on both. Truth there
is a lot of bad blood between Costello and Hsu, but both
company have their strengths and by the latest numbers are
both making pretty good money.

>>>Chung, I think you may have been mistaken by the table headings having been
reversed. AVNT lost .66 per share for the quarter, and .11 cents per share for the first
nine months. I can see how you were mistaken after reviewing the table.

The numbers cause panic, Cadence growth within the same product line causes
panic, Cadence making money and AVNT may cause panic, HSU arrested and
handcuffed may cause panic, the judge's rulings may cause panic in the civil case,
the courts decision in the criminal case may cause panic, but Tonto is not influential
enough to cause panic.
