I have often been a critic of the welfare state and affirmative action as well. However when a sentence is structured as above, it implies bigotry on the writers part, not to mention ignorance on the economic conditions of blacks in the US over that period.

What he should have said is welfare and affirmative action benefited black folks didnt take advantage of the largesse of white folks and failed as usual to make progress. Because thats what it sounds like he believes. As i said to him in an earlier post, paleo cons like him and buchanan are unable to separate themselves from their biases much like the rev wrights on the left. And what i said to MM is that obama should make this a generational issue and not so much race. Whether its sharpton or david or wright or buchanan the anger and bigotries are out of place in todays america with todays youth.
