almost starting to feel sympathetic toward obama

Me too. I don't think he is a bad person. I think he was raised a leftist, but does not himself have a particularly evolved political philosophy, though this may be a strange thing to say of a presidential candidate. I always got the sense that Hillary had wrapped her head around 'her' issues, but it wasn't the same for Obama. I think he means well.

He just has Caesarian-size ambitions, with Caesar's oratorical genius but without his political skill, his ruthlessness or his will to win at all costs. He wants to be carried to the White House on a wave of adulation, without having to fight his opponents. As a pol, he is a minor league phenom brought too quickly to the major leagues because the team was really desperate for a good arm on the mound.

His reactions to Wright have been slow and befuddled. He should have cut all ties in March and talked to the black community about not falling for such nonsense. By saying that "I can no more disown Rev. Wright than I can disown the black community," Obama left himself vulnerable to Wright's exhibitionism in a way that a more savvy politician would never have done.

No skill is more essential in a leader than deciding whom to trust.
