Here's an idea, move to San Diego. It's easier to ship fuel, food and goods to there: <People are desperately trying to figure out how to reorganize their lives, because the cost of shipping fuel and goods to remote areas is going exponential. So sustainability is a really hot issue. > [hot issue... good pun]

Vicious rumour has it that there are lots of cheap and getting cheaper houses looking for new owners in the area as well. Plus, being warm, there's no need to buy fuel for heating.

Large crops grow nearby too.

Not to mention Made in China is just across the water and the large manufacturing bases of California and Mexico are handy. Make sure to live well above sea level though, to avoid Pacific ocean tsunamis.
