This is exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned that new patents for minor reformulations should not be issued (but are). I heard that just about every drug out there can be reformulated for time release. This way, once the original drug reaches generic stage, the drug company comes out with the "time release" version and virtually extends the patent for the same drug.
