# Lowering Costs Through Investment in Electronic Health Information Technology Systems:
Newflash - this is already mandated as part of HIPAA. Obama has nothing to do with it. You're getting whether or not he is elected. Obama's election has nothing, whatsoever, to do with this.
1. Barack Obama will prevent companies from abusing their monopoly power through unjustified price increases. His plan will force insurers to pay out a reasonable share of their premiums for patient care instead of keeping exorbitant amounts for profits and administration. His new National Health Exchange will help increase competition by insurers.
Which companies have "monopoly power"? Can you name one? Which company doesn't pay out a "reasonable share" of their premiums for patient care? State insurance boards determine which procedures are paid for and which aren't. If insurance companies do no pay well enough, providers will not deal with them. ALMOST WITHOUT EXCEPTION, ALL COMMERCIALS PAYERS PAY MORE FOR A GIVEN PROCEDURE THAN MEDICARE, MEDICAID, TRICARE OR RR MEDICARE. So, he's going to force them to pay even more? Isn't that ass-backwards of what you and JF are promoting, i.e., that they should pay LESS, not more?
Lower prescription drug costs. The second-fastest growing type of health expenses is prescription drugs. Pharmaceutical companies are selling the exact same drugs in Europe and Canada but charging Americans more than double the price. Obama will allow Americans to buy their medicines from other developed countries if the drugs are safe and prices are lower outside the U.S. Obama will also repeal the ban that prevents the government from negotiating with drug companies, which could result in savings as high as $30 billion. Finally, Obama will work to increase the use of generic drugs in Medicare, Medicaid, and FEHBP and prohibit big name drug companies from keeping generics out of markets.
Obama can't repeal a DAMNED thing. If he wants to repeal something, he needs to introduce legislation while he is in the Senate because as president he cannot do so.
More importantly, there is noting Obama can do as president to increase the use of generics. What do you think he will do? Please answer the question.
The simple truth is this is just a watered down policy statement that offers NOTHING on health care. |
