No. Obviously, you have a small part of the picture.
Almost all medical claims today are submitted to a claims clearinghouse which then submits the claims to the individual payers (often, though other clearinghouses). Submissions to clearinghouses are generally done by Internet today.
But when the claims clearinghouse submits to Medicare, they have to do so via async. Also, any individual submitters who do not use a clearinghouse (in Arkansas, there are still hundreds, perhaps more than 1000) must submit via async.
The simple fact is that increased involvement of government as you and JF have claimed will not improve the situation, it will make it worse. While we have reasonably good technology, it is a fact that government payers are far, far behind the others in every respect. And many of those government payers which were better managed 10 years ago are now lousy because of the increased regulation imposed by government via HIPAA. For example, EDS-based systems were fantastic in the 90s, but now that HIPAA has come into being they are an absolute train wreck.
But you cannot, under any circumstances, dump more of this on government because THEY are the problem to begin with. Don't wet yourself. Nothing you have said so far has been correct. |
