"Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca (Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz, c. 1490 / 1507 – Sevilla, c. 1557 / 1559), son of Pedro de Vera y de Hinojosa (a distante relative of Francisco Pizarro), of Jerez de la Frontera, and wife Teresa Cabeza de Vaca y de Zurita, was an early Spanish explorer of the New World and is remembered as a protoanthropological author. His name is spelled as Alvar Nuñez Cabeça de Vaca[1] in 16th Century documents."

This is the best book I've read in a long time... I'm sure you would enjoy it.
