Put it this way. My kids are about to enter college. When they do, then I am done working. My wife and I are going to partaayyy and travel around the world. Retirement will be sweet, but I'm finding out is that individual insurance without an employer backing you is expensive! And there are a million budget items you have to consider that your company will no longer pay for: cell phone, home office phone, broadband connection, free miles from all the consulting trips around the country, health insurance, etc etc. So my goal always was to save enough to replace my salary with the earnings off my savings. But I've actually had to save more than that to keep my standard of living the same. And I'm almost there. But if cap gains increases by 10%, then I might have to work another year to save enough to make up the difference. Argh. Now of course, these are problems that are good to have, so I won't complain too much, but there you have it. How many other countries can you come from nothing to be able to retire at a decently young age? ;) So I'm willing to give back.
