First-Quarter GDP May Be Revised Up

upRevisions to construction spending in January and February suggest a bigger rise in gross domestic product than the Bureau of Economic Analysis estimated in its advance release yesterday. Economists for both Nomura and Morgan Stanley estimate the construction data — which included a sharp drop for March — means GDP growth could be revised up from 0.6% to 0.9% or 1%. However, other data yet to come could result in revisions in the other direction. –Greg Ip
