OT: Every time I go into my local VA Hospital, I see something or someone that reminds me how blessed and lucky that I am. Last week was another of my visits with the staff of the VA. Most of the Vets wear a variety of pins on their hats. Usually they have a pin with our flag, former rank, units, and pins showing which war the pins and badges were earned. We all greet each other in passing with a nod, a word of greeting and every now and then a smile. I was getting close to the entrance when I looked up as the door swung open and out came a very young, beautiful, tall, blond, young woman. She was wearing grey sweats, was on crutches and one leg was in a prosthetic. She had her pins on her sweats, flag, rank and unit and the purple heart. She greeted everyone she passed with a big smile and a strong voiced "hello". She looked as if she should had been in a beauty contest. I stopped as she passed, and everyone else she had greeted stopped and watched the fluid swing of her legs, faster than I could run. We all looked at each other and smiled. She had done more than most at this time of her life, she had volunteered to be in harms way. It was a good day to be a vet.
