Turkey turned majority Muslim hundreds of years ago....if it was ever majority Christian, it was only that way for a short period of its history. In fact, the ME has been majority Muslim shortly after the death of Jesus.


A little history fo ryou about Anatolia aka Turkey:

In the first three centuries of the Christian era, the native Anatolian population (mostly Greek in the west and Armenian in the east) converted to Christianity. Armenia was the first nation to entirely accept Christianity.

The Muslim Seljuk Turks invaded Anatolia in 1071 and established a sultanate in central Anatolia. A small ruling class ruled a mostly Christian population. The Mongols crushed the Seljuk state in the 1200's.

In 1288, the Ottoman Turks began war against the Byazntine Greek empire. They conquered more and more territory till they finally conquered Constantinople in 1453. The Turkish empire eventually reached from Iraq to Algeria and into the Balkans.

In 1914, there were about 3M Greeks in Turkey. 300-360K were victims of genocide, the rest fled - most expelled in the 1920's. There a few thousand left.

The Armenian genocide during WWI killed from 300K - 1.5M. Today there are 3M Armenians in Armenia and 5-6 M in diaspora. 1M in the US, over 1M in Russia, the rest scattered around the world.

At the same time as the Armenian genocide, the genocide of Assyrian Christians occurred in southeast Turkey and northern Iraq (then part of the Turkish empire). 275-500K were killed.
