BO <<There's a difference between lowering the drive price to $99 because you're selling
lots of disks vs. lowering the drive price to $99 because competition may eat into
your market share.>>

there's a difference? what difference? in the first example you lower the price to $99 to sell a lot more disks. in the second example you lower the price to $99 to beat out the competition in order to sell a lot more disks.

where in the world did you naysayers go to naysayer college? let Sony introduce their drive. let mitsui introduce their drive, and the imation, and Syquest, and Nomai, and and and. The Swan drive is purportedly faster than Zip, and it isn't selling that well. The Sony drive is a "Swan" drive that is backwards compatible. Let's see, if you make the actual Swan drive backwards compaitble tomorrow, will that increase its sales? Why? there are many factors here, drive cost, disk cost, market presence, support, compatibility, compatibility with your PP Zip, and so on. Sony is another player in a crowed field where IOM has 87% market share. Is IOM going to sit back on their fanny's and watch their market share slip? Don't you think IOM has a ton of tricks up their proverbial sleeve that you haven't considered? by the time the Sony drive is introduced, there will be nearly 14 to 15 million zips. IOM will have come out with new/improved products of their own and you'll be standing in the month of March finding something else to naysay about. forget it. the market will work and IOM will grow, believe it.
