Look I don't disagree John Williams is a stand-up guy. What I have a disagreement is that any one person or body of people - including the Fed - know what the inflation rate is. The inflation rate seen by a Harry Macklowe is not the same inflation rate seen by Vi. Statistically, Americans have no savings in its narrowest definition. Therefore, why do they care that "savings" is being eroded by "inflation"? Meanwhile household wealth - the best measure of total savings - is declining. That ain't inflationary.
