And i have proposed talking to iran for the longest time because US and Iran have some common interests that can be the basis for peace.

Of all the nations in the ME besides Israel, Lebanon and Turkey, they are the closest to us in mindset. Their population is well educated if not decidedly conservative. They have a growing middle class. They have always been ME outcasts.....because they are Shia and Persian, not Arab. They have great potential for being a working democracy if they can get over their theocratic leanings. Its too bad we put too much store in the Shah.....his fall has really screwed up our perception of Iran.
