Caution: Rant!

It will be fun for me to see how this all plays out. I work in customer service, and I like to observe people and their cellphones.

First off, I believe the tide is quickly turning away from simple clamshell phones. It's obvious. When i see a 22 yr old girl come to work proudly with her LG voyager and tell me she was waiting for her tax refund to pay for it I realize how important her cellphone is.

When I see my older friend, a 50 year old cheapskate who has clung to his Nokia clamshell for several years, go online to try to bid on a smartphone so he can get with the times and text me back I have hope.

When I see the security guard who I know who has to hold down two jobs just to pay his bills come to work with a low level blackberry I have hope.

When I see people walk down the street looking at their cellphones I always wonder what they are doing. I also wonder what will happen when they will be actually able to see their screens in sunlight!

The cellphone is quickly becoming the remote control to our lives, At least to the younger generation.

Mediaflo as a broadcast technology is an EASY BUILDOUT. Yes, Why give it away for free. There is plenty of pricing wiggle room. Hell.. it really hasn't even started yet and people are complaining about the price. At $15 we think it is too expensive. I can almost guarantee just by reasonable thinking that at $5 it will become ubiquitous. What sane person would NOT pay $5 to be able to flip on the boob tube. It's too easy! All they have to do is see it and say, hell for 5 bucks??? Put it on! Heck we pay almost $5 to rent a single movie. And we haven't even gotten to the audio channels and datacasting features yet. Hopefully they are hard at work finding something for everybody. I remember when I used to pay $70 month for real time quotes delivered to me. It takes just one useful feature to hook a person. And remember how many channels they can broadcast in. Mediaflo is CONTENT delivery system. So let's see what content they dream up.

I think CNN was a good addition. News on cellphones could draw out the older naysaysers with something for them. I know we're all not into spongebob or Jay Leno 3 times a day. How many men don't want to miss the game. How many wives will pay for the service for their men so they can leave the house and be with their wives or girlfriends? Remember the episode of Friends with Joey listening to the game at a wedding?

Let's see what happens with the pricing. When one sees what they charge for text messaging, what they charge for picturemail, what they charge for a simple ringtone download, or what they charge for current mobile tv, Does $15 seem all that bad? I can "almost" pay $15. But I would sure pay $8!

Anyway, I'm hoping!
