As a child and teen ager I swam in the Delaware River. Actually we would cross it to the New Jersey side where there was Baker's Chemical Mill. There was a huge pipe that ran underground and every day about the same time we would witness all this waste pouring out of this huge pipe into the Delaware.

We were too young to even think that it might be dangerous to sit there and watch the effulge horribly colored stuff pour out. And too young to think of the implications for years later when all the Shad disappeared from the Delaware.
