I'll bet you a case of Coors that if they tried, Justice or Commerce or Defense would veto the sale - most likely Justice, they have an easy answer in the Sherman Act. I posted a link to an article about 4 congressmen bringing pressure on the DOE not to allow gov't money in the EUV LLC. Who knows about how firm the deal is? Certainly the actors pledged $250MM, but I think that was on the premise that Sandia or somebody would support the project. I think I remember the figure $150MM either in cash or kind was to be gotten from the US.

And while we're on the subject, everyone knows that Bell Labs gave a stepper to JMAR to play with, but (again, if my brain cell remembers correctly) you'll find federal money paying for that originally, too.
