"The first mention of the price of oil I could find at the Nest was on 5/22/05, when an article on tar sands mentioned oil at 50 bucks. Today, LSC is at $70, after bouncing off $75 earlier this week. I'm guessing gas was about $2.50; today, I couldn't find regular for under $3.20."
This was from 2 years ago, the first birthday of the Nest. This morning, I saw Super at $4.19, diesel at $4.49. I can still get regular at #3.89. Haven't been to town yet, but prices will be higher.
From my same post,... "I gave out a number of copies of End of Suburbia, and usually found mice elf saying "You should have watched it when oil was $45; now that it's 50 (55) (60)(65), will you watch?" LMAO."
It's now been a year since I started to push this to the hospital, and now, the figures have changed to " Oil was $80 when I gave it to you. Now it is $115. How are your energy bills?"
Over the last few years a number of other problems have started to pop up... world food supplies are getting tight, China only has a 12 day supply of coal, India has a uranium shortage, water is beginning to show up as problem. Not to mention global warming, so I won't. And rice shortages and/or rationing is showing up for bulk purchases at Costco, Sam's Clubs. Production of oil showed slight declines in 2006 and 2007. First figures from this Jan may break the 5/05 record, but it loos to me that production from Canadian tar sands have been included, and that pumped oil is still in decline. Ghawar appear to be declining at 8%, Cantarell 16-20%, and Russia's output has been in decline for 5 or 6 months, amidst stories out of there that they have peaked.
I made 9.14 KW of electricity today. It was a good day. I'm retiring by Oct. I'll get a fall garden started, and get ready to grow my own next spring; for the kids, too. As much as I can in 6-8 beds. Maybe a bed of winter wheat to see if the seeds are still viable. We live in interesting times.
