I hadn't really thought about the 'no aliens' aspect. The Reavers do sort of fill the role, however.

Good point. And the origin of the Reavers is key to River's story arc. (BTW, I wonder if they got the name from The Rievers? Remember that Western?)

That's quite an elaborate listing on Wikipedia, the show definitely has a big following.

Its amazing that fans are still being created by word of mouth six years after its cancellation. Says something about the quality of the show, as well as how poorly Fox handled it.

I can see how controlling interests at Fox would have a problem with the show. Big government, portrayed as bad, forged from an alliance between the U.S. and China of the future.

My thoughts exactly. As well as a captain who rejects God, a geisha who enjoys an exalted social standing, a nymphomaniac mechanic, and an interracial marriage.

The show is subversive at heart, which is a big reason why I like it and probably why the suits at Fox could not tolerate it.
