No news but I think it wasn't a coincident that the cross licensing deal came after Spansion completed its acquisition of Saifun.

I also still think (no indication whatsoever that this is true) that it might not be a coincident either that the deal happened around the time that Spansion ensured itself of Rambus design services. I read somewhere that recently IBM licensed some IP from Rambus as well for SerDes cells for networking products iirc, which most likely is unrelated btw, but could possibly be a rather vague-ish indication that there's more activity going on in this company triangle: IBM licenses charge trapping from Spansion. IBM licenses SerDes from Rambus (probably unrelated). IBM wants Spansion to produce RM memory. Spansion gets access to Rambus design services for engineering DDR mem interface for Mirrorbit, and signs a memo of understanding for joint Mirrorbit development.

My best guess is that Spansion will use Rambus for interfaces, like DDR and not only maintain that (MOU) but possibly deepen joint devellopment of Mirrorbit. For Rambus it might eventually mean access to charge trapping IP for DDR. For Spansion it can mean a friend in marketing its DDR Mirrorbit broadly. RM is further down the road. It's just a rather vague hunch but it's not impossible that Rambus might play a similar role (interfaces) here. One thing is for sure: There's a lot of mem IP and expertise here.

Regards,

Rink
