Steve, the entire train analogy was based on the notion that you believe with reasonable certainty that the train leaves at the appointed time. If "you have absolutely no idea if it has left the station," then the analogy doesn't apply.

If the train has left the station - that then is a fact. No way does this apply to GW because GW tipping point is not a fact. The analogy is stupid if this is the case and would have no meaning.

If it cost nothing, there would be no opposition to trying

Well of course it cost something to special interest groups - oil companies for instance. Another loser of course would be the military complex that Eisenhower warned about. Yes there of course would be winners and losers, but to society as a whole the more we get smart about energy consumption the better off we are as a nation. As a people. But there is no way the cost of people's health (for instance) is figured in to the cost of oil.
