A few quickie comments: Seems to me recent Bay strength was a rebound from poor product rollouts and catching up from pent up demand. I am seeing them less and less as a strategic competitor to CSCO. COMS consumer stuff also not an issue. I'm looking more and more at LU Northern Tel Siemens and the other Telco equipment vendors as longer term competitors. (NN/COMS merger? - major management conflict, Mathews is questionable reputation and Benahmou is too high quality.) I sam Ipsilon at the alex. conference yesterday. very interesting, the company (IP switching) touted as the undoing of cisco, now positioning itself as better performance than 7500 without the cost of the 12000. Gee, there's a big segment for a company with a staff of 120 people to pursue. (Yuck Yuck.) Still seems that most of the world doesn't understand the intricate relationship between switching and routing and that if you through enough low cost switched bandwidth at a network the need for cisco infrastructure is moot. By the way, if you add a zillion lanes to a highway, you don't need traffic laws or regulations. Funny thing, people still don't get how powerful cisco's position is relative to the competition out there. On the quarter, I don't get the sense of a blowout October, I feel like the momentum is building for a good "wave of investment in infrastrucutre" (paraphrase chambers) starting with the GA of the 12000 in january Q. over and out TD
