Steve,

<<Well we have had someone who is tough - and what has that got us? I think it is time for someone smart. >>

GB is tough but I don't think he is smart. I think Clinton will be tough and smart and therefore different.

<<If I thought Hillary was smart and could do a good job leading the country, I would not hesitate supporting her for President. Time and time again though she has come across - to me - as mean and lacking judgement. Her latest pander is to buy votes with a gas tax holiday. That is no leadership in my mind and is the exact wrong appoarch to high energy. Until she starts showing a vision and good judgement, she is not my candidate.>>

I think we will have to disagree here to a degree. I do think she is smart. I do have doubts about all the remaining candidates abilities to run the country. All the remaining candidates have shown lack of judgement at different points in time.

On the gas tax holiday, I see it as something different. I see it as a temporary stop gap measure to give a little breathing room to those that are having trouble putting food on the table and paying for gas at the same time right now. I would agree that it is a bad long term energy policy.

<<Today WE are the huge military power dwarfing what the ME radicals have. We don't have to show a knife - they all know we have big bombs. If there is one thing we should take away from our Afghanistan and Iraq adventures it is that talking tuff has got us no where>>

I would point out that Bosnia didn't care about the knives we had until we used them. The same is going on right now in Darfur. No one there thinks we have the ability, or the will, to go in there and do anything and so all the stuff goes on there.

As to Afg and Iraq, our problem was/is we acted tough and stupid. I agree we need to get someone in office that is smart. I would also like someone tough but who is willing to negotiate. I feel that both Obama and Clinton are smart enough to negotiate with our enemies. Politically, I know Clinton is tough but don't know how she will behave when actually placed in a non-political fight. With Obama, I just don't have any idea on this issue.
