Most of Obama's accomplishments were in Illinois, and so they are not off the cuff knowledge for most people from other states. As a new U.S. Senator he can really only sign on to bills from more Senior Senators. That's just one of the ways Washington works. democraticunderground.com On of his accomplishments that I felt showed his skill was a welform reform bill that was moving through Illinois. Like so many bills there were arguments that people spent their welfare checks on cadillacs or that children were dying of malnutrution. Obama added a provision in which the recipients were surveyed as to where the welfare checks actually went. Then the bill was able to be debated using real information and not just rumor, ancidote, and hype. TP
