>>Is it really bad to have someone who is both smart and tough in the White House? Is that a good quality to have when someone is negotiating with our enemies, to have the projection of toughness and strength? Or is it that men are afraid of a tough woman with a knife since the Obama supporters are looking to take this thing literally and not figuratively like it was intended?<<

Neal -

First of all, I do understand that Carville's comments were not intended to be taken literally. I am able to grasp the idea of a metaphor. I realize that he did not mean to convey the information that Hillary Clinton has three testicles, whereas Barack Obama has only one. After all, how would Carville know that about Obama?

But seriously, I'd have a problem with comments like that coming from Carville if he were speaking in support of a male candidate. It's just immature and fatuous to talk about toughness in those terms.

It's also fatuous to suggest that Obama isn't tough enough to deal with the rough territory of the Presidency.

There are people who go around looking for fights. They always seem to be able to find them. We don't need such people at the top of the Executive Branch of our government. There are going to be plenty of fights, anyway, and we don't need to be seeking them out, or using language that provokes them.

President Bush and his people have continuously reminded me, with the way they have conducted themselves, of a gang of schoolyard bullies. I'd be very pleased to have a President, of either sex, who did not have that kind of attitude.
