Oil was (and is), legitimately a factor. But like he first said, it was tangential.

If one looks at the REAL reasons we are at war in Iraq, one stands out far above the others -- the idea of democratizing Iraq bringing about a more moderate [and free] influence in the region was tremendously appealing in reducing the influence of the extremists who attacked on 9/11.

All the other reasons pale by comparison. Whether it can be done is still subject to question, but if it is successful, it will serve our interests well.

By the way, the cost of the war to date has been 1/2 trillion, not 3 trillion. I know you guys are excited at the opportunity to mis-state the numbers, but you could at least try not to misrepresent the facts.
