My hot button on animal welfare is the intentional breeding of pure-bred dogs to serve as family pets. I know lots of people have a special fondness for particular breeds, and will pay good money for them. But I believe that's wrong.

IMO mixed breeds, mongrels if you insist, make better pets; in general, less temperamental. But I wouldn't call anybody a bad name who wants a pure-bred golden retriever, for example <g>.

It's just that the animal shelters in this country put millions of wonderful animals to sleep every year, when they could make great pets for a very small fee.
