Yes, I think that is exactly right. There are also lots of people who look at the combined national experience of Reagan, Clinton and Bush, Jr. and decide that how a president performs once in office is what counts.

All the exit polls have shown that change is what people want most. Running as the experienced old hand was actually a disadvantage this time around.
