For a number of years the wives have been dominant in either backing their husbands running for office and later having visible endeavors, projects as their confidants in the White House-----with the exception of Laura Bush.

Laura is a very warm,genuine, intelligent woman in her own right. She has been the strong wife, mother and informal ambassador for America wherever she goes. She always has the right turn of phrase in various situations--------obviously no damming America.

George Bush, Senior's wife, Barbara, was in contrast to Laura the 'ruling' hand in the Bush family imo. I always felt that she supported Bush Senior because it was her duty ; this is in keeping with the role of a military wife.

Nancy Reagan's project was the Just Say No To Drugs-----a lot of us were involved in that War on Drugs to save our young people and our communities. Nancy Reagan was a first-class lady and President's wife.

Jimmy Carter wanted to appoint his wife Rosalyn as Ambassador to , think it was a South American Country. Rosalyn was the first President's wife that seemed politically ambitious and imo likely had long talks with her husband about policy .

In contrast, are the Clintons---------their story is one of the more bizarre in the annals of Presidential couples in America.

What can one say about Hillary as a President's wife that hasn't been written. The Arkansas allegations, ambitious as a Governor and President's wife, FBI files, Foster death, husband impeachment vote, Monica. Despite all of the garbage, she seems to be making her last stand-----unless Obama takes the nomination and she stands aside for 2012.

Now to Michelle Obama----if her condition that Obama stop smoking to run for President is indicative of what kind of a President's wife she would be --------it is fair to assume that there is an element of control. Remember that Obama acquiesed to that demand and has been chewing nicorette throughout the campaign------a substitute for smoking that eliminates the smoke but not the nicotine.

Just a few more months to go and we will know------
