That's an odd view of idealists. A lot of people would say Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington, and Rousseau were idealists, who inspired the glorious revolution of our country.

Wait- you're posting this article as an example of spurious boxes, aren't you!!! I take your point, and I agree with it. Gross generalizations are silly, no matter who makes them. Hat tip to you.

What O'Rourke means is he doesn't like idealists who don't line up with his way of thinking. That's hardly novel. I'm not very fond of idealists like Mao, or Lenin. But that's hardly and indictment of being an idealist. Now is it?
