<<<The house does always win. It has nothing to do with the fact that sometimes a individual wins too. >>>

There are varying degrees of truth to sweeping generalizations (or truthiness)and they are at times useful. Frequently, however, they do not apply when you get down to specifics.

The example I chose to illustrate my point was not very good. It was confusing.

A better example, I hope:

The difference between my own truthiness versus the truthiness of "free market fundamentalists" is I believe this:

The free market fundamentalists will always believe that doing nothing is better than having government intervene to solve something that we have identified as a problem. Government always screw things up. The free market is the only solution to solving problems.

Whereas I believe that we have to do something to solve a specific problem but first, as they preach in med school, do no harm. Government freguently get things wrong, but a solution for most problems exist. We just have to find it and get it right.

Both sides can cite mountains of data points and examples to prove their truthiness.

Ultimately, however, solving problems and getting to the truth is what we humans are here to do. That is in our DNA.
