Yes, Sony has aggressively splintered the market for DVD-RAM before it's even off the drawing board.

This is the same Sony which tried to replace the cassette with the Mini Disc. I like my Mini Disc recorder and player, but it's not exactly an everyday item, even though it was introduced what, four or five years ago?

Sony is definitely a serious company, and obviously their drive could be a threat. But it isn't necessarily a success just because "it's a Sony."
