"Make money" is good advice, though it seems somewhat incomplete. You can make a lot of money dealing drugs, but it's probably not a good career plan.
O'Rourke's piece seemed to indicate that he thinks every one of us can be wealthy. This, of course, is wrong. Our capitalist economy is competitive. In a competitive economy, some people will win by making a lot of money, and others will lose. (And some, like me, will make a fair amount of money, then get stricken with some kind of disease and see our fortunes dwindle. Not that I ever really had a fortune, but I did used to be a millionaire.)
Most of us want to make a lot of money, but that doesn't mean we all can.
