PARIS (Dow Jones)--French industrial production fell 0.8% on the month in March, national statistics office Insee said Friday. (EUR/USD was 1.43 to 1.49 in December to March period)

In February industrial production rose 0.5%, revised higher from an initial reading of 0.3%, Insee said.

The March data were below expectations. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires forecast a 0.2% monthly fall in industrial production.

Equipment goods production fell 1.1% on the month, posting 5.4% growth in the three months to March from the corresponding period last year, Insee said.

Car production in March fell 2.9% on the month after dropping 1.9% in February, the statistics office said.
