Depends on the car.

If you care can use "OMG" without knocking, or without having to adjust the timing or other factors to avoid knocking (the latter is much more common now), than its just as good. Its not like regular has any less power than premium.

But many performance cars are set up for premium. Almost all of them will still run on regular, but at slightly reduced power.
