I remember making "butter" like that. As I recall, it came in a plastic bag. All white (lard, I guess) with a 1/2 inch "dot" that was orange. You had to pinch that dot to break it and then knead it into the white stuff until the whole package turned a buttery yellow. My brother and I'd argue over who got to do that. My mom had a mold that she'd pour out the newly made butter and turn it into a cube of butter for meals.
