When things start to slow down have you ever checked the task manager to see what applications or processes are running, and what percentage of your CPU usage they're using?

You can right click the task bar and choose Task Manager in the menu and take a look.(or hit ctrl-alt-delete) It might give you a clue? Might be a couple of misbehaving applications or processes?

I remember a couple of years ago my computer was acting strange for a couple of weeks. Turned out that WinPatrol, a respected utility program, was spazzing my computer out. It would periodically kick in and my CPU usage would spike to 100% and my pc would crawl. Turned out it conflicted with another program that I had. Task Manager enabled me to pin point the source of the problem.

Worth a look when the PC is acting up.
